Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Potato masher or fork
  • Mesh sieve or strainer
  • Heat-safe container
  • Lemon squeezer (optional)
  • Airtight storage container

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces frozen peaches (or 3 cups fresh peaches)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place the frozen (or fresh) peaches, granulated sugar, water, and lemon juice into a medium saucepan.
  2. Heat and Stir: Set the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture to combine all the ingredients.
  3. Bring to a Simmer: Adjust the heat to bring the mixture to a simmer or a low, rolling boil. Continue to cook at a simmer, stirring often to prevent sticking and to help dissolve the sugar.
  4. Cook and Smash Peaches: Cook the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes. While cooking, mash the peaches to break them apart using a wooden spoon or potato masher.
  5. Strain the Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat. Pour the mixture through a mesh sieve into a heat-safe container to strain out the peach solids, leaving you with the sweet peach syrup.
  6. Chill or Use Immediately: Refrigerate the syrup to chill before use. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

  • Use High-Quality Peaches: If possible, use high-quality frozen peaches or fresh peaches when in season for the best flavor.
  • Mash Thoroughly: Ensure you thoroughly mash the peaches to extract as much juice and flavor as possible.
  • Thicker Syrup: If you prefer a thicker syrup, let it simmer a bit longer until it reaches your desired consistency.
