Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Food processor (optional)
  • Airtight jar or container

Ingredients

  • 3 cups dry milk
  • ½–¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓–½ cup cocoa powder
  • teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: Add the dry milk powder, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt to a large bowl. Break up any large clumps before mixing.
  2. Whisk everything together: Slowly whisk the mixture until it becomes completely uniform in color with no streaks of cocoa or pockets of dry milk.
  3. Blend for a smoother texture (optional): Transfer the mixture to a food processor and pulse for 10–15 seconds. This step helps the mix dissolve beautifully in hot liquid.
  4. Transfer to a container: Spoon the mixture into a clean, dry airtight jar or container. Seal tightly and store in a cool, dry cupboard.
  5. To serve: Add 3–4 tablespoons of the mix to a mug. Pour in 1 cup of hot water or warm milk. Stir until creamy and smooth.

Notes

  • Sweetness: Start with ½ cup sugar and adjust to taste, add more if you prefer a sweeter mix.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight jar for up to 6 months, or freeze for up to 1 year.
  • Variations: Add crushed candy canes, mini chocolate chips, cinnamon, or mini marshmallows for a fun twist.
  • Gifting: Package in a mason jar with a handwritten tag for an easy, heartfelt homemade gift.
