Equipment

  • Medium sized pot or dutch oven
  • Wooden Spoon to stir simmer pot on occassion

Ingredients

  • 3 sprigs Lemon balm fresh or dried
  • 1 tbsp Lavender fresh or dried
  • Fresh florals

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: If using fresh herbs and flowers, rinse them gently under cool water to remove any dirt or debris. If using dried herbs, measure out the desired amounts.
  2. Fill the pot: Fill a medium-sized pot or dutch oven with about 4 cups of water. You’ll want your pot to have at least 1-2 inches of water in it.
  3. Add the ingredients: Add the lemon balm, lavender, and fresh florals or chamomile to the water.
  4. Simmer: Place the pot on the stove over low heat. Allow the mixture to simmer gently. As it heats, the water will release the soothing and aromatic scents of the herbs and flowers.
  5. Enjoy the aroma: Let the simmer pot fill your home with a fresh, summery floral scent. You can simmer it for a few hours, adding more water as needed to keep the ingredients covered.
  6. Refresh as needed: After a few hours, the scent may fade. To refresh it, you can add more water and a few more sprigs of lemon balm or lavender.
  7. Store leftovers: If you want to save the mixture for another day, let it cool completely. Store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator, and reheat it the next time you want to use it. It is good for 2-3 uses.

Notes

Keep an eye on the water level: Make sure to check the simmer pot occasionally and add more water as needed. You want to keep the ingredients submerged to prevent them from burning and to maintain the fragrance.
Reuse and refresh: If the scent starts to fade, you can refresh the pot by adding a little more of your ingredients or a few drops of essential oil. You can also refrigerate the mixture and reuse it the next day by adding fresh water.
Simmer on low heat: Simmering on low heat is key. You want a gentle simmer to release the scents without cooking off all the water too quickly.
