Equipment

  • Peeler and knife
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Pastry cutter or your fingers
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • 9×9-inch baking dish
  • oven
  • Spatula or spoon

Ingredients

  • 6 apples peeled and chopped
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • ¾ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter diced into small cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the apples: In a large mixing bowl, combine the peeled and chopped apples with the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss everything together until the apples are evenly coated. Spread the glazed apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the crisp topping: Reuse the bowl from the glazed apples and whisk together the brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold, diced butter to the mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Assemble the apple crisp: Spread the glazed apples evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the crisp topping over the apples, covering them completely.
  5. Bake the apple crisp: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream
