Do you find your mirrors and windows are never 100% clean? Do they always end up with a bit of streaking even after many attempts of spraying and wiping? This DIY streak-free glass cleaner has one magic ingredient that may shock you but trust me, it works wonders.

The magic ingredient is cornstarch! Generally in our home, we use cornstarch as a thickening agent but today we also use it as a cleaning ingredient.

If you have never tried to make your own cleaning products, I highly recommend you try this year! There are so many benefits to making your own cleaning products instead of buying them in the store. I’m not telling you to throw out all of your store-bought cleaning products and swap them with homemade ones. Take a peek at your cleaning cupboard and see what you use the most. The easiest cleaners to make at home are all-purpose cleaners, glass cleaner, and veggie wash!

I still buy my all-purpose cleaner (and handsoaps) from an all-natural Canadian company called The Bare Home. I just love their packaging and refill stations. I could go on and on about this company, but this post is dedicated to our DIY streak-free glass cleaner so I will save that review for another post.

So what are the advantages of making your own cleaning products?

  1. Save money. Most homemade cleaners cost pennies compared to store bought brands. Even if cleaners only cost a few dollars here and there it still adds up over time.
  2. Healthier. When you make your own cleaning products, you have complete control over what ingredients go into the formula. Choosing natural ingredients that you already have in your home ensures you are making a clean and healthy product for your home.
  3. Kid friendly. Make cleaning a family task while feeling confident that you aren’t handing over harsh chemicals to your little ones. Still use precautions when letting your kids use your homemade products though!
  4. Contribute to less waste. Making your cleaning products youself allows you to forgo throwing out empty bottles every few months. Opt for a reusuable glass spray bottle that will last you years.
